Shipwreck, Tongue Pt., Nootka Island

This massive barge wrecked upon the outer shores of Nootka Island years ago.  A local entrepreneur, spurred on by high scrap metal prices, broke it into pieces and hauled it to nearby sheltered Louie Bay.  The market for scrap dropped out, leaving the ship to sit rusting to this day.

This area of Nootka Island is rarely visited by kayakers, due to its exposure, and distance from main areas of interest.  Louie Bay is one end of the challenging Nootka Trail, which traverses the outside of Nootka Island.
