A morning breeze crosses the water,
dappling the still water.
Sun begins to pierce
the morning fog, highlighting the trees dipping towards the deep
ocean. Around the nearing headland, the swell will begin to break
against the wilderness shore.
The bow of the kayak slices through a line
of kelp trailing off an eddy line. Feeling the current catch my boat, I
edge to the side, plant a solid sweep stroke, and let myself join the ebbing
tide.
A diving sea-bird pops up a meter to the
side, and with a still wriggling feed fish clasped in its beak, turns and
paddles away. Last night a solitary Humpback whale lunge fed for several
hours in the waters off our beach.
Today I head towards an intricate cluster
of offshore islands, dotted with sea-caves, boomers, and isolated beaches.
