Mud Flats, Clayoquot Sound

The world changes in 6 hours on the ocean.  At one extreme the waves lap at the roots of the trees, at the other a strange, complicated world is revealed.

The mudflats of Clayoquot extend for miles in some areas.   Vast areas inhabited by shellfish, worms, seaweeds, and other invertebrates, are invaded by migrating hoards of sea birds.   A vital stopping point for many birds, the west coast of Vancouver Island is part of the Pacific Flyway, which sees hundreds of thousands of wings pass by on their way north (or south).
